  1. In the news, on Mangagamer's poll of demographics and titles people want, I've got three responses to @stringedsonata's question about why you would want a legit Mangagamer version of something that has a good fan translation:
    1. If you want to go legit and get the real game from Japan, I'm under the impression that a lot of Japanese retailers won't ship 18+ stuff to the US. I've never tried this myself, so I don't know how true that is.
    2. Tech support / hassle. Patches are a pain to install and screen out a bunch of potential players. And translators don't want to be everyone's tech support. I'm playing Muv-Luv and the fan patch for tthat only works with older versions of the game, not the updated-for-Win-7 stuff (I've had to use XP).
    3. Hard copy swag. No Name Losers did a nice job on the translation of ef. But only a physical release could get us that really pretty artbook that came out last year.

    1. Well, with Fate/Stay Night specifically, the following things are true:
      1. It's REALLY easy to get a physical copy of the game. There are a few different retailers that attend conventions that sell physical copies of Fate/Stay Night. Also I import a fair amount of 18+ stuff and I've not had a problem.

      2. Mirror Moon's patch is pretty easy to get to work. Plus honestly if you bought the game, I think it'd be fine to buy it and then just download the fuwanovel .exe file lol

      3. As for swag? You really can't beat F/SN's Japanese LE hardcopy. If you just get that, you're totally set.

I think my point is mostly just that I'd rather companies like Mangagamer licence games that I couldn't play otherwise without learning Japanese. It eats at me that Type Moon has a new game out that sounds really cool but no one is translating it. I can kinda understand people wanting a game like Fate/Stay Night to come out here because it'd be easier to get, but still. Something you can already play in English if you do a little work versus something you can't play without learning another language? I'd rather the latter be focused on.

And keep in mind I am saying this as someone who adores Fate/Stay Night. It's my favorite VN and the game that got me into this stuff.
